OFFICIAL GRENFELL 2019 NOTTING HILL
CARNIVAL MUSIC SOUND SYSTEM
Notting Hill Carnival 2019
This year Rapattack continues to highlight support for the Grenfell tragedy. Do remember, Rapattack is not just the official Grenfell Soundsystem. This SoundSystem (established in 1984) has its origins firmly rooted within the local Notting Dale - Grenfell and Mangrove communities. Multicultural messages of love and togetherness are deep and firmly rooted in this part of town. Following on from last year we consider it only fitting to continue to pay tribute, therefore the system goes fully 'green yet again and all Carnival Sound systems will employ a 72-second silence at 3.00pm on Carnival days in remembrance of victims, as we party down to the now nationally recognised local theme:
💚 "FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS"
It is undeniable and figures from the Greater London Authority (interim report 2001) recognised that the specialist DJ based sound systems provide the biggest attraction to Carnival attendances and have since continued to do so over the last decade. Originally back in 1965 this event started out as an affair for the Afro Caribbean community and has developed into what can now be described as a truly successful multicultural event. It is the most colourful, happy, joyous and definitely the most spectacular event in the British calendar. In Carnival terms is second only to Rio. It's fantastic, it's vibrant, it's full of life, it's for everyone and it's FREE!
Rapattack is the premier and most largest sound system at Carnival, with highly skilled members who feed into operational issues, liaising with the local authorities, Metropolitan Police, the Greater London Authority amongst other stake holders and we are currently chairing ECCA (Executive Committee of Carnival Arts) which is a major part of the operational body that organises the entire Carnival event as a whole.
Rapattack performed at their first Carnival in 1984 and became one of the founder members of B.A.S.S. (British association of Sound Systems), which today is the governing body and discipline which organises all 'static' sound systems at this event. The site is officially licensed by the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and both soft and alcoholic drinks are available from the licensed bar area.
Listed in official Carnival literature as one of the places to be whether you consider yourself a party animal or simply just a good music lover, the atmosphere is electric. Serving up a cocktail of sounds (from James Brown seventies funk to Brand New Heavies, Jamaraquai and Nelly, Madonna to Rihanna, Stevie Wonder to Justin Timberlake, De la Soul to Tinie Tempah etc, etc, etc), it's no wonder why this site is so popular. Special celebrity guests and exclusive performances from the UK's top and underground DJ's are renowned. Year after year performances from the likes of some of the world's top recording artistes have proven to be a smash. If you love music, this site is for you. Whether it be the cross section of people and celebrities mingling in the open air crowd or reminiscing to your favourite golden oldies on the amazing 50,000watt stereo digital sound system- once you experience Rapattack at Carnival you're hooked. It is only then that you will appreciate why people come from all over Europe and return to this site year after year.
